With an abundance of activities at your fingertips, if you're seeking a change of scenery for a day and happen to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, consider heading up to Corolla to discover why the presence of the wild horse herd makes our OBX region one of the most unique properties on the Eastern Seaboard. Away from the bustling resort areas in town, our Northern Beaches provide a tranquil and serene ambiance. The "gold coast" stretch of Corolla promises an authentic oceanfront escapade. For those feeling particularly adventurous, pack a picnic lunch and venture all the way up to the Virginia border.

You'll unmistakably recognize when you've reached the border. Oddly enough, there's a fence erected, and crossing is strictly prohibited! It's shrouded in mystery why this dispute between NC and VA persists. Surprisingly, as recently as the 1980s, a casino operated right in this area. Whenever federal agents approached the beach for a raid, locals would swiftly hitch their tractors and relocate their recreational hall to the safer side. Ah, those were the days indeed.

To delve deeper into the captivating world of the beautiful wild Spanish mustangs, pay a visit to the Old Schoolhouse within the Corolla Village Museum and Gift Shop. Corolla Wild Horse Days serves as an enlightening experience, raising awareness about the cherished wild mustang horses that freely roam the four-wheel drive area of the Northern Outer Banks. Additionally, the Corolla Wild Horse Fund hosts horse painting sessions for children at their Schoolhouse Museum every Tuesday from 11 AM to 2 PM throughout the summer, weather permitting.

At The Currituck Club, Jones has brought to life his philosophy of golf course design - to create an environment for the game of golf that is challenging, fair and aesthetically pleasing, using as his canvas the type of land where golf began.

Jones produced a breathtaking layout that stretched across 6,885 yards of remarkably diverse coastal terrain, including sand dunes, wetlands, maritime forests and soundside shoreline.

Our spectacular championship course was rated one of the "10 Best New Places You Can Play" by Golf Magazine and in May of 1999 Golf Digest recognized The Currituck Club as one of the "Top 25 Courses in North Carolina."
